⚠️Winter Weather Update from DCPS⚠️
A winter storm may impact our area this weekend (Jan 24-25, 2026). DCPS plans to open on a regular schedule on Monday, January 26, but we will monitor conditions closely and keep you informed of any changes.
❄️School Schedule - DCPS is scheduled to open for a normal school day on Monday, January 26.
❄️Weather Monitoring - If the storm moves in this weekend, we may need to close schools. Weather-related updates will be provided through the DCPS app, social media platforms, email, phone system, and website.
❄️Snow Days - DCPS has 2 more snow days built into our 2025-2026 school calendar. Maryland law requires us to use all built-in snow days before considering virtual instruction.
❄️Virtual Instruction - If the storm results in school closures beyond 2 days, we will switch to virtual instruction. Grades 1-12 will log into their devices to connect with teachers online. PK and K students will receive paper copies and can contact teachers for help.
❄️Preparation - Students with device agreements will bring devices home Friday; all other students and students in PK and K will receive paper assignments.
📅Possible Closure Plan:
❌Monday 1/26: If closed, no school
❌Tuesday 1/27: If closed, no school
💻Wednesday 1/28: If closed, virtual instruction begins
❌Thursday 1/29: Schools Closed for Staff Professional Development
❌Friday 1/30: Schools Closed for Change of Semester
We’re committed to being prepared and will keep you informed.

Ms. Spedden's 5th graders have launched an exciting new science unit as food scientists! Students are working to solve a real-world problem for Good Food Production, Inc. Today, they analyzed three different mixtures by observing their properties and conducting hands-on pour tests and dip tests. These investigations are helping students think critically about how materials behave - just like real scientists in the food industry!

🔬✨ 2nd Grade Science in Action! ✨🔬
Our 2nd graders are having so much fun diving into their science unit on the properties of materials! 🧪📘 This week, students became scientists as they explored how different materials behave by using a variety of ingredients to make their own glue.
They observed, mixed, tested, and discussed which materials worked best and why—building critical thinking skills while getting a little messy in the process!

We are proud to recognize two outstanding Maple Lions who were awarded a Maple Coat at our first Coat Ceremony of the school year. These honors reflect the powerful words shared by teachers and staff who see these students shine every day.
Peyton Eskridge 🧡🦁
Teachers describe Peyton as a positive, enthusiastic learner who comes to school ready to give his very best. He asks thoughtful questions, takes academic risks, and never gives up when something feels challenging. Peyton is known for being hardworking, motivated, and kind to others, always lifting up his classmates and leading by example. His strong work ethic and joyful spirit truly represent what it means to be a Maple Lion.
Cristian Cruz Martinez 🧡🦁
Staff consistently share that Cristian makes every classroom better just by being in it. He is attentive, respectful, and always willing to try. Known for his kindness and strong work ethic, Cristian looks out for others, follows expectations, and leads with integrity. Whether in the classroom or through sports, he shows dedication and leadership, and his Carson Scholarship nomination speaks to the impact he continues to make.
It made the moment even more special to have their parents with us to celebrate this achievement. Peyton’s and Cristian’s families proudly joined us and had the honor of presenting their Maple Coats to them, making it a truly meaningful and memorable occasion.
We are so proud of Peyton and Cristian for earning their Maple Coats and for being such wonderful examples of excellence, character, and heart at Maple. #withJoy
