Meet Shamara Cephas, Operations & Production Manager Apprentice at WHCP Community Radio. Shamara's drive to become an actress has opened an innovative opportunity through the MD Youth Apprenticeship Program. "Shamara is amazing, and we are fortunate to have her. Mike Sterling, Founder & GM. Shamara has brought her skills, talent, personality, and innovative ideas to the WHCP Community Radio Station.
Meet JB Bell Jr, Welding Apprentice at GKD Metal Fabricators. GKD hosts two of our apprentices and we are grateful for their partnership. JB shares that the hands on experiences that he has gained in this opportunity are setting him up for success for his future!

A huge shout out to our student speakers, Nia White and R'Miya Rosado, and career coach, Ms. Shay Lewis-Sisco for presenting our SkillsUSA monthly session yesterday! Students were engaged in learning about this month's essential elements- integrity, adaptability, and flexibility.
Students in our architecture, engineering, welding, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, masonry, medium heavy truck, and automotive technology programs were empowered with information to pursue careers in construction. Thank you to Whiting-Turner for your partnership with our school and for working with Career Coach Shay Lewis-Sisco to bring the interdisciplinary understanding to construction management projects with a complimentary VR experience to expose our students to the Mardela Middle/High School project you are working on.
Today, we highlight Daniel Yorton, a student apprentice at the University of Maryland Center of Environmental Sciences (UMCES) in the Horn Point Oyster Hatchery. UMCES is not only an emerging industry; Horn Point is a national leader in applying environmental research and discovery to solve society’s most pressing environmental problems. UMCES expanded their partnership by registering for the MD Youth Apprenticeship Program and taking Daniel as their very first student Oyster Hatchery Aquaculturist Apprentice.
Today, we kick off National Apprenticeship Week by highlighting our MD Youth Apprenticeship Program. Through partnerships with the Department of Labor, Maryland State Department of Education, local employers, workforce partners, and our school system, our apprenticeship program is considered a CTE Program of Study. As we highlight our student apprentices this week, joining the National Celebration of Engagement, Expansion, and Innovation. Three Auto Tech students passed their first ASE Student Certification exam this week. The exam was G1 Maintenance and Light Repair, which covers all 8 ASE certification areas!

Last week, SkillsUSA members attended the Fall Leadership conference in Ocean City. Students worked towards earning their Statesman or Advanced Statesman Award!
CASE Agriscience students got their hands dirty this week! We are learning about the components of soil and soil formation. Students were able to evaluate the textures of pure sand, silt, and clay, and then they were able to complete a ribbon test on 10 different samples of soil from local areas to determine the soil texture. It was a messy task, but we determined most of our soil samples were sandy loam or silty loam.

When you have a teacher that becomes a mentor. Giving back is a gift you give. Last week, former HVAC Student & CSDHS 2021 Graduate, Nehemiah Davis came to speak with Mr. Beauchamp's students on the importance of having a plan. He shared how his military journey has afforded him the opportunity to travel, make money, and serve our country. Thank you to Career Coach, Shay Lewis-Sisco for coordinating this visit.
