Good afternoon SDS families,
The decision to close schools, go virtual, or have an early release or delay, is made by the superintendent, and honestly the principals have no say in these decisions. I have, however, been keeping him and the assistant superintendents updated with concerns I have received from the SDS families.
With that being said, SDS has prepared to go virtual in the event that we must close due to tides (this only applies to when SDS is the ONLY school closed). The biggest change in our lives is that we start sending devices home every day from now on. We will begin this gradually this week, with all devices going home (and returning) from school daily. Some teachers may begin today, but all have been instructed to begin by Monday, October 14.
We have purchased chargers and computer bags for each student and the computer really does not need to leave their bookbag at all when home. It is just going home IN CASE there is SDS closing. Each grade level teacher will go over the expected routines with their students and you, as parents, can get your child use to bringing their device to and from school.
Based on the survey I sent, some people will be contacted that do NOT have access to the internet. Additionally, we will be sending home instruction on how to log on the platforms, as well as a virtual schedule if needed.
PreK, Kindergarten , and students who have "opted" out will NOT be transporting their devices daily.
Please let me know if their are details I have overlooked and thank you to everyone who has contacted me about concerns or ideas.

Mosquito spraying will not begin for a couple of weeks and mosquitoes are BAD! You may want to spray students before sending them to school as we are spending a lot of time outside.
