It is the giving season and we are so excited that thanks to Hertrich , NDMS was awarded $1000 to put toward an outdoor classroom. We want to say a special congratulations to Mrs. South and her students for kick starting the process. Also, special thanks to anyone and everyone that continuously voted to help us win.

Youngsters love to give as well as receive, but with limited money and transportation many find it hard to ensure they have a surprise to give their loved ones during the holiday season. It’s Holiday Shoppes, like this one at North Dorchester Middle School, to the rescue! Students can “spend” points earned since the start of school for good effort, behavior, and attendance to purchase gifts for family and friends. Shopping was in full swing this week, thanks to donated stock, volunteer elves to wrap gifts and provide other help, and Chief Elf Ms. South overseeing events in the Media Center. Last week, in Mrs. Irby's 6th grade social studies class, students learned how to be scribes in Ancient Mesopotamia, writing in cuneiform. This ancient and unique form of writing can be seen pressed in clay tablet. For the lesson, students pressed their monogram. Thanks Ms. Irby for planning engaging lessons for our students.
Let's try this again. We were mentally trying to block out the fact that we have a Friday the 13th this week. This week at the Nest, the following activities will occur: Monday - Staff Meeting, No Afterschool Activities Tuesday - Media Club with Ms. South, 3-4:30. Our Winter Concert will be held in the gym. Wednesday - Lego Club with Mr. Weis, 3- 4, Cheer with Mr. Lee and Ms. Griffin, 3-4:30, Media Club with Ms. South, 3-4:30, Basketball game Home vs. Perkins YMCA, tickets at the door tip off at 5 pm Thursday - Cheer with Mr. Lee and Ms. Griffin, 3-4:30, All Shore Band Practice with Mr. Bragg, 3-4, Friday - D&D Club with Mrs. South, 3-4 Saturday - NJHS will attend Wreaths Across America at the East New Market Veteran's Cemetery, meet Mrs. Carpenter at the entrance at 9:30 am. All on Saturday NDMS will participate in the Federalsburg Parade.

NDMS Band, Band Front and the Owlette Dance Team braved the cold on Saturday December 7th at the Diamond Themed Cambridge Christmas Parade . Congrats to the Band for scoring First Place for Middle School Band. Each student performed their best and we are so proud. Special thanks to Dave Ryan for providing pictures and to the coaches that shared their passion and time.

Model/Dance will practice Monday and Wednesday until 4:30. On Thursday, they will host their inaugural Fashion Show. Models/Dancers need to be on property by 4:15. Doors open at 4:30. Tickets need to be purchased in advance.

Today, we are also thankful for the Hurlock Lions Club. They are such an amazing, giving community partner to NDMS. This month, with their help, we were able to give away 3 bikes., to students that go above and beyond, everyday.

Today we are thankful for our Guidance Department, who graciously created a fundraiser for the Red Cross. $311 was raised for the Hurricane Relief Effort by our students. We are kicking off the "NDMS is Thankful For" Picture Recap. Today we are thankful for our Veterans. NDMS held their annual Veteran's Day Celebration. Our Veteran Speaker, Mark Parker, is very inspiring to our community. He continues to impact lives through his work as a K9 Deputy at the Dorchester Sheriff's Office. We had a lovely performance by our Band and Choir. Poms, Dance Team and Cheer also were included in the celebration. TAPS was played by Landon Lewis. Thank you to our Veterans and Veteran Families for your sacrifice for our freedom.

New Dates! It is that time of year where we spread cheer. On Dec. 2nd, 4th and 6th students will be able to use PBIS points to shop. We are in need of volunteers to help wrap gifts for students. Please email Ms. South at southj@dcpsmd.org, if you can help. This is a great opportunity to get yourself in the Holiday Spirit!
