We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the third and final round of community engagement sessions focused on identifying priorities to guide future school construction projects across the district.
These sessions brought together a diverse group of community members who collaborated with professional planners to develop a comprehensive evaluation rubric. This rubric reflects the values and priorities most important to our community and has been used to assess the condition and needs of each school facility.
The evaluation identified Warwick Elementary School as having the highest level of need. However, the assessment also highlights that all DCPS elementary schools face significant facility challenges that require attention. With this valuable information, DCPS now begins the critical process of determining which school construction project will be submitted first to the state for consideration and funding.
We encourage continued community involvement as we move forward. The full report is available on our district website, dcps.k12.md.us, and community members are invited to share their feedback. Additionally, public input can be provided in person at the DCPS Board of Education meeting on May 21, 2026.
In accordance with state requirements, the DCPS Board of Education will vote on June 18, 2026, to select the school construction project to advance in its formal request to the state. Electronic public feedback will be accepted leading up to this vote. Scan the QR code below or go to bit.ly/4cNettq to share your input on any additional factors you believe the DCPS Board of Education should consider when deciding which elementary school to recommend for replacement first.
We extend our sincerest gratitude to all community members who have participated in this process, contributing their time, insights, and collaboration to help shape the future of our schools.

Yesterday, Maple Elementary School had the incredible honor of welcoming judges from across the state of Maryland for a special “Reading in Robes” event with our 3rd grade students!
Our distinguished guests shared stories with students, explained their important roles as judges, and spoke about the journeys that led them to their careers. This meaningful experience gave our students valuable insight into the justice system while inspiring many of them to dream big—some even left wanting to become judges themselves one day!
We are so grateful for opportunities like this that open our students’ minds to future possibilities and connect learning to the world around them. Thank you to all of the judges who took time to invest in our Maple Lions!

Maple Families,
To ensure a safe and efficient arrival for all students, please review these important drop-off procedures:
Car Rider Line Expectations
• All students must be dropped off through the designated car rider line.
• Do not park or stop along the road to let students out.
• Please remain in a single line and follow it all the way through. Double lines in front of the school are not permitted.
Stay in Your Vehicle
• Adults should remain in their cars during drop-off.
• Staff will be on duty to assist students as needed.
• Please have your child ready to exit quickly once your vehicle comes to a complete stop (backpack ready and seated on the passenger side if possible).
Important Reminders to Keep Things Moving
• No dropping off on the side of the road. This creates safety concerns and delays the entire process.
• All students should arrive by 8:45 AM to ensure a smooth and timely start to the school day.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work together to keep our drop-off process safe, smooth, and efficient for everyone.💚

4th grade had an amazing trip yesterday to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge! 🌿🦅
Students had the opportunity to bird watch using binoculars and were excited to spot eaglets in their nest, along with other birds like egrets and a woodpecker. They also explored animal and plant adaptations, making meaningful connections to what they’ve been learning in Science class.
Our students were engaged, curious, and full of excitement throughout the day. The rangers were so impressed with Maple’s knowledge and enthusiasm—way to go, Maple Lions! 💚👏
