Good afternoon, We will be holding soccer tryouts Monday September 8th from 3-4:30 PM. If your student wants to try out, please make sure they bring appropriate clothing, shoes and a water bottle with them. Transportation home will not be provided.

We need Coaching Champions! Champions will receive an annual stipend. Mrs. Webb is leading this charge, so if you have questions or for additional information please reach out to her at 410-228-4747 or email @ webbk@dcpsmd.org. An information session will be held on September 5th at 9:15 AM.

📣 i-Ready Math Testing Begins September 3rd! 🧠📊

All students will be participating in i-Ready Math Diagnostic testing starting Tuesday, September 3rd through Friday, September 19th.

🗓️ Testing Window: Sept. 3 – Sept. 19
📚 Who: Math & Algebra 1 classes
🧩 Why: To help us understand each student’s strengths and areas for growth in math!

✅ Make sure your student:
Comes to school on time.
Gets a good night’s sleep.

Spotlight! Ms. Victoria Shaw Clemmons will also be a familiar face to some of our incoming 6th graders this year. Having taught at Maple Elementary last year she's bringing a new perspective to our 6th grade hallway, teaming up with Mrs. Lawson for science. Thank you for choosing to join the MLMS family!

✨ Welcome Back, Team! ✨ This morning we had a Welcome Back Breakfast and Staff Meeting. It was wonderful to see everyone together again—sharing laughter, reconnecting, and collaborating as we prepare for another amazing year ahead. Spotlight #8! Mrs. Amy Lawson is also no stranger to Mace's Lane. Mrs. Lawson has been a crucial part of our team in different ways over the years, including becoming a long term guest educator on the 6th grade hallway towards the end of the 24-25 school year. Now, she gets to call that classroom her own! We are so grateful Mrs. Lawson continues to choose MLMS and are happy she's joining our science department full time.

Spotlight #7. Mr. Cole Morrissette is no stranger to Mace's Lane Middle School. He was a student here not so long ago! Coming to us from Salisbury University, Mr. Morrissette is joining our PE/Health teachers. We are so excited to say "Welcome home Mr. Morrissette!"

Spotlight #6! Welcoming Ms. Bobbie Matthews to our administrative team. Ms. Matthews spent her first few years in DCPS next door as a Choptank Hummingbird. Ms. Matthews will be our 7th grade Assistant Principal for the 25-26 school year.

Please welcome Mr. Walter Newell to our Social Studies department. Mr. Newell worked in Baltimore City before making his way down to us in Dorchester. We are excited for him to bring his expertise to our students!

🎲🧩 Board Games Wanted! 🧩🎲 Mace’s Lane Middle School is looking for board game donations to use as part of our PBIS incentives! Our staff are working hard to create options for students who demonstrate positive behavior, and we want to reward them with fun, interactive activities that encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and good sportsmanship. If you have any gently used or new board games you’d like to donate, we would be so grateful! Popular choices include:     •    Classic games (Monopoly, Connect 4, Uno, Sorry, Trouble, Jenga)     •    Strategy games (Checkers, Chess, Battleship, Clue)     •    Party/family games (Pictionary, Apples to Apples, Headbandz, Guess Who) 📍 Donations can be dropped off at Mace’s Lane Middle School during school hours. 💛 Every contribution helps create a positive and engaging school culture for our students! Spotlight #4! Welcome Mr. Chadwick Fischer. He's an Eastern Shore native joining our Social Studies department on our 7th grade hall!

Spotlight #3! Welcome Mr. James Clopein. A recent graduate from Salisbury University, he will be teaching 6th grade Social Studies. Thank you for choosing DCPS to start your journey!

You could feel the energy coming off of Mrs. Cook as she welcomed the staff for the 2025-2026 school year. Her message was clear: Tigers are strong, courageous, and fiercely protective. They are strategic, patient, and focused. These traits mirror the way we will guide, protect, and challenge our students each day. We are looking forward to an amazing school year!
