Sharing Mrs. Shaw’s summer office hours with students & families because she works over the summer and wants to be accessible to CSD & South Dorchester students in grades 6-8. Career Coaches can help students by using Naviance and other tools to match their talents & interests with successful pathways, jobs & careers. They also help students create goals that lead to success, learn essential skills, organizational skills, create resumes, find internships, apprenticeships, gain self-confidence, offer career counseling, and find part-time employment & real-world opportunities, that help them find success. Mrs. Shaw’s hours during the summer will be 6 a.m. until 4 p.m.. She will be out in the community quite often to be accessible to students. She has collaborated with the Dorchester County Public Library and will be holding open office hours there from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., so students may meet with her there (in the Young Adult section). She can be reached over the summer at: shaws@dcpsmd.org and by phone: 410-228-9224 Ext. 1778.

Congratulations to Cambridge South Dorchester junior, Tyler Sears, who was recognized for his leadership to his school and community at The Perdue Henson Junior Achievement Center in Salisbury Thursday evening. Eighteen students from all over the Eastern Shore received the Under 18 Award, and enjoyed mixing and mingling with lots of visitors while they perused the recipients’ personally decorated tables, displaying items that helped portray who they are and their accolades throughout their high school career. Mr. Phil Reed, representing The Cambridge Rotary Club nominated Tyler for his self-less service to the Interact Club and C-SD. Attending to support Tyler was his grandmother Michelle Sears, and family friend, Teresa Smith, along C-SD staff members: Sydney Steeves, Jessica Lang, Sandy Shaw-Career Coach, & Tina Morris-School-Community Liaison.

Yesterday was a big day for C-SD students. Not only did they get to practice essential skills of mixing & mingling, introducing themselves, and shaking hands, they got to interact with real business owners and professionals in many industries. Fifty different businesses, organizations, & agencies chose to spend their morning on Thursday interacting with students and sharing information about their career pathway. Over 700 students meandered throughout the fair, and they were praised by all of our visitors for being some of the most engaged and respectful high school students. Organized by Career Coach, Sandy Shaw, it was even bigger and better than expected. With an estimated count of 138 visiting professionals, “the Career Fair couldn’t have gone any smoother”, according to Mrs. Shaw. She added, “the feedback from our visitors was overwhelmingly positive. This will make next year’s Career Fair even more successful.” C-SD wants to thank Mr. Bill Christopher, Dorchester Chamber of Commerce President, Bay Country Bakery, Dunkin Donuts, Ms. Tina Morris, Mrs. Lauren Blades, Ms. Voncia Molock, Ms. Ellena Walker, Mrs. Bethany Earing, Ms. Morgan Mann, Ms. Colleen Carney, C-SD’S Interact Club, a huge thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty in helping with the fair. A special thank you to students: Tyler Sears, Brook Corkran, Jerry Rice for helping with set up & break down…a huge undertaking. Thank you to DCTC for allowing us to borrow tables and chairs, and all who teachers who brought their classes over in the morning to peruse the fair. Lastly, thank you to the administration at CSDHS!
