Our CSD Violin Club has been meeting weekly since mid October with Mrs. Wise and today they were visited by Ms. Lizzie Devereux, the Director of Comprehensive Arts Education for MSDE. Violin Club meets during our PowerHour and is open to all students. Students rehearsed today for the Winter Concert and got some valuable pointers from Ms. Devereux, who is a trained violinist. We are very excited to see where this program is headed! Thank you so much to Mrs. Wise for organizing this incredible opportunity for our students!

Our winter athletic season kicks off tomorrow! Tickets for all home athletic events will be GoFan ONLY for students and adults during this season. Today, we have an awesome event happening in our Media Center from 10:40-11:30 a.m.. Mr. David White from Pohanka in Salisbury will be sharing information about Pohanka's School, where they train you to be an auto or truck mechanic, or collision repair professional, and THEY PAY YOU! I spent 3 hours there last Friday learning all about this program, and if you like tinkering with engines or cars and trucks, then YOU are a perfect candidate to enter their program. Guess what? You don't have to be a young adult to get accepted into their program, either. They have older adults who want to change careers who also are eligible for their program. All you need is the interest in learning and working. If you are a graduate of C-SD, you are welcome to sign up. We still have room for today's presentation. Email me to sign up: shaws@dcpsmd.org I promise you won't be disappointed!

The Interact Club has been busy collecting clothes for our cold weather clothing drive. The Club just made a large donation to the Blessing Closet here at CSD!

Special thanks to our officers Tyler Sears, Mia Jackson, and Christina Hyde, and to our advisors Mr. Tremper, Mrs. Mann, and Phil Reed!

Students and staff at CSD wore red to celebrate National Kindness day on Monday. We try to spread kindness every day here at CSD, and we appreciate Student Services recognizing the day.

Cambridge-South Dorchester High School’s Media Center was the location of a special event for our students today! Salisbury University admission counselor, Shane Ryan, reviewed student’s transcripts, test scores, and extra-curricular activities and conducted in person interviews with students and granted instant admission decisions. A phone interview was also conducted for a student that could not be here in person. This event was made possible through the hard work of our Next Generation Scholars Program Specialist, Ms. Lauri Bell. Congratulations to our hard-working students!

Congratulations to Te'kai Drummond and Laila Insley for being our student-athletes of the month for October!
Te'Kai runs for CSD's boys cross country team, and has placed in several events this season. Most recently, he placed 6th in the region XC meet, helping his team to qualify for the State Championships which will take place this Saturday, November 11th.
Laila plays for CSD's girls soccer team, and is one of the leading scorers for the lady Vikings. Her coach had this to say about her value as a player on the team:
"Laila has been an integral part of our soccer team. She is a leader on and off the field, and is responsible for many of our goals this season. Laila scored the tying goal in our playoff win vs. Snow Hill which was definitely the turning point in the game for us. I love having her on the team."

Today we salute a paws-itively super principal, the leader of the Warwick Elementary pack, Ms. Marybeth Blake! What does Ms. Blake wish to be her legacy from her years as an educator? “I want my legacy to be that I have empowered all children to have confidence to be their own advocate, to leave their seven years of elementary school having a voice to stand up for what they need to be successful in their educational career and as they navigate life. I want children to be kind, fair, and inclusive of others.” Happy National Principals Month, Ms. Blake! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS #ThankAPrincipal

Big congratulations to Cambridge-South Dorchester High School principal Mr. Jerome Stover on receiving the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (MBRT) June E. Streckfus Leadership in Education Partnerships Award for his outstanding support of the Next Generation Scholars Program at C-SD! Mr. Stover was selected for this recognition by MBRT from programs throughout Maryland. Next Generation Scholars Programs help students determine career interests and support students through the college and financial aid application process, and at C-SD is coordinated by Ms. Lauri Bell. Mr. Stover is pictured holding his award with Ms. Shamya Johnson-Stover, Human Resources Administrator for Hiring and Recruitment for Dorchester County Public Schools.
Nine C-SD students, part of the Next Generation Scholars Program, also attended the MBRT Industry Day and Annual Meeting to cheer on Mr. Stover as he received his recognition. The event was held at McCormick Headquarters in Hunt Valley, where students met other Next Generation Scholars from across the state, learn about McCormick and the company’s careers, learn about how spices are made, talk to flavorists, and sample different flavors/spices. They also heard from Chef Stretch of Next Level Chef, a local Baltimore young man making a name for himself in the culinary industry. #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS #CreatingTheFutureDCPS
