Our amazing Art and Media Teacher, Mrs. LeMire, celebrated Dr. Seuss Day with our PreK 4 students in an extra fun and creative way! 🎨🎩

The little ones got to make their very own “Cat in the Hat” hats while practicing their coloring skills. Each hat looked just like the iconic one, and it was wonderful to see how focused and careful everyone was while working.

This activity was not only a blast, but it also helped the kids build fine motor skills and follow directions, all while celebrating the joy of reading. At Vienna Elementary, our Terrapins are always learning—even while wearing a very famous hat! 🐢📚✨

Four girls from Mrs. Diffenbach’s class had some very important work to do at recess — introducing Vienna Elementary’s newest students… Jeremy, Bob, and Henry! ☃️☃️☃️

These three little snowmen may be small, but they have big personalities! Jeremy likes the cold, Bob enjoys recess, and Henry is just happy to be here. 😄

We’re not sure how long our frosty friends will last, but they sure made recess a little more fun at Vienna Elementary School! #withJOY

5th Grade Science Exploration 🔬

Students in Mr. Sorrells’ 5th grade science class at Vienna Elementary School have been busy conducting a Stability Test investigation. Using different ingredients, students observed and recorded how different substances stabilize liquid mixtures and predicted which combinations would remain stable.

Through this hands-on experiment, students practiced:
• Making scientific predictions
• Careful observation and recording data
• Comparing results
• Learning how different materials interact

Our young scientists did a wonderful job working together and thinking like real researchers. Experiences like these make science exciting and meaningful!

The Diamondback Terrapin 🐢

Vienna Elementary School 4th-grade students recently had an exciting hands-on learning experience as they explored the life cycle of the Diamondback Terrapin!

A Senior Environmental Specialist from the Maryland Environmental Service, Ms. Beth Ross, visited our classrooms along with Ms. Perry and Dr. Lucas, our 4th-grade teachers, to provide an engaging educational program. Students learned about terrapin habitats, growth, behavior, and conservation through interactive, hands-on activities.

Through this special classroom program, terrapins from Poplar Island are getting a “head start” on life. Students help care for juvenile terrapins throughout the school year by observing their behavior, collecting growth data, and learning proper care techniques. This program helps hatchlings grow quickly and prepares them for release back into the Chesapeake Bay.

In the spring, students will return the terrapins to Poplar Island, where they will be released into their natural habitat — a meaningful experience that helps students understand environmental stewardship and the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay.

We are grateful to the Maryland Environmental Service for bringing this incredible learning opportunity to our Vienna Terrapins! Also, a big thank you to Dr. Lucas, head of the Terp Club, for organizing this special learning experience for our students. 🐢
