On Friday, May 23, 2025, fifth-grade students from Vienna Elementary School visited the Dorchester County YMCA in Cambridge to participate in the YMCA's "Splash" Water Safety Program.
After their visit, the students received swim caps and enjoyed some fun time with our Principal, Mrs. Susie Price. Thank you, Mrs. Price, for being such a good sport for the camera!
We want to express our gratitude to Ms. Todd, one of our fifth-grade teachers, and Mr. Abbott, our math and reading coach, for accompanying the students to the Dorchester County YMCA. We also appreciate the YMCA for hosting us.
For more information about the Dorchester County YMCA, located at 201 Talbot Ave, Cambridge, MD, please call (410) 221-0505.

Mr. Vaughn Evans, the Principal of North Dorchester Middle School, visited our students at Vienna Elementary School to discuss the “dos and don'ts” of middle school. He covered important topics such as cell phone use, appropriate school attire, and the use of lockers. Using his sense of humor and background knowledge about the age group, he reinforced the importance of listening, thinking, and making appropriate choices in this new stage in their lives!
With over 30 years of experience in education, Mr. Evans shared how much he was looking forward to working with his newest group of students when they enter grade 6. We want to express our gratitude to Mr. Evans for taking the time to address the students' concerns about the upcoming changes, easing their transition into this new chapter of their educational journey.

DCPS Seeks Public Input on a Proposed Update to our Cell Phone Policy
Dorchester County Public Schools invites students, parents, teachers, and community members to provide feedback on a proposed update to our cell phone policy aimed at improving the learning environment in schools.
Over the past year, the district conducted a pilot program in select schools to test various approaches to cell phone use during the school day. The pilot provided valuable insights into what was needed to update the current policy.
THE DRAFTED POLICY https://5il.co/3lzgo outlines guidelines for cell phone use during school hours as well as consequences for misuse. The district hopes the policy will help minimize distractions in the classroom.
The district is requesting your input about the changes by August 15, 2025. Community members can submit their feedback via email to Nancy Harrington at harringtonn@dcpsmd.org.

Hello, Vienna Elementary School Families!
As we eagerly anticipate the start of the 2025 – 26 school year, we would like to remind families that all Dorchester County Public Schools require clear backpacks and clear water bottles.
At Vienna, we have a limited supply of clear backpacks that we will offer at no cost to students on a first come first serve basis beginning at our Open House on Thursday, August 28th, at 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Unfortunately, we have no clear water bottles to offer.
Thank you for your understanding. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to seeing everyone very soon!

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, our 3rd grade students had the incredible opportunity to visit the Dorchester County Historical Society Heritage Museum, located at 1003 Greenway Drive in Cambridge, Maryland. The knowledgeable staff at the museum shared fascinating insights about a variety of historical figures from Dorchester County, including the courageous Harriet Tubman and legendary Annie Oakley.
