We had such an amazing time on Friday, June 6, 2026, at our Play Day event at Vienna Elementary School! The sun was shining, the weather was warm, and our Vienna Terrapins filled the day with laughter and joy.
The afternoon kickball game brought out a lot of fun banter between the 5th graders and the adults. In the end, the adults came out on top with a score of 24-7! Sorry, 5th grade, but as you can see in the picture, Mr. Abbott is proudly claiming that his team is still number one!
A huge thank you to Miss Hubbard, our awesome PE teacher, for planning and organizing such a fantastic event, and to all the staff and volunteers who lent a helping hand. We couldn't have done it without you! #withJOY💚🐢💚
**Stop, Drop, and Read Day!**
We had a fantastic day on June 3, 2026, at Vienna Elementary School during our "Stop, Drop, and Read" Day! Thanks to the wonderful Vienna Parent Association, each student received two amazing new books to enjoy.

Our Terrapins had a fantastic day exploring hands-on STEM activities designed for their grade levels. Students participated in stations that included magnetic building challenges, cup tower engineering, sink-or-float experiments, bubble science, straw bridge construction, egg drops, watercraft design, and paper airplane challenges.
Special thanks to Mrs. Guldan, President of the VPA, for planning and organizing this event, as well as spending the entire day at our school and personally leading one of the STEM stations.

**Q&A About Sixth Grade**
On June 3, 2026, we had a special visit from Mr. Vaughn Evans, the principal of North Dorchester Middle School, at Vienna Elementary School! He joined our fifth graders for a fun question-and-answer session, and our fourth graders were invited to sit in and listen, too.
Mr. Evans shared lots of useful information about what to expect in sixth grade. He talked about everything from the dress code and cell phone policy to class schedules, school hours, clubs, field trips, and more!
To keep things lively, we played Mr. Evans' famous game of Simon Says, and even our own principal, Mrs. Price, joined in on the fun. However, no one was able to outsmart Mr. Evans!

This year marked the 10th anniversary of our fifth grade trip to Blackwater Adventure's Chesapeake Bay program! Students enjoyed kayaking on the Little Blackwater River with their tour guides and experienced the beauty of Dorchester County from the water.
Students also visited the historic Bucktown General Store, where they learned about Harriet Tubman's life and the story of the head injury that was a defining moment in her life.
A special thank you to Blackwater Adventure, Mrs. Kacey Meredith-Knox for opening the Bucktown General Store and sharing its history, our wonderful parent chaperones for their support, and Mr. Sorrells and Mr. Abbott for organizing another memorable experience for our students.

On May 15, 2026, our second grade Terrapins enjoyed an exciting and educational field trip to Kindred Spirit Farms in Salisbury, MD, and Oakley’s Farm Market in Hebron, MD!
At Kindred Spirit Farms, students participated in guided educational hayrides, enjoyed hands-on encounters with petting zoo animals, and learned about horses through interactive experiences. The smiles and excitement throughout the day made for unforgettable memories!
At Oakley’s Farm Market, students picked fresh strawberries straight from the field while learning that strawberries are currently in season. They also toured the market and discovered how local agriculture moves from the farm to our community.
A special thank you to our amazing parent chaperones for taking time out of your busy schedules to support our students. We truly could not provide these wonderful experiences without you!
We would also like to thank Mrs. Carroll and Mrs. Thomas, our outstanding second grade teachers, for planning and organizing such a meaningful and fun-filled trip. 🎓It is #withJOY that we here at Vienna Elementary School welcomed back our former students who are now graduating from North Dorchester High School!🎓
Despite their busy schedules and all the excitement surrounding graduation, these seniors took the time to walk the halls of their elementary school once again, reconnect with teachers and staff, and reflect on how far they have come. It was truly special to see them back where so many of their educational journeys began.
Yearbooks were on hand as we shared memories and smiled at how much they have grown over the years. In the kindergarten hallway, their class photo with Mrs. Dechert was proudly displayed on the classroom door, bringing back wonderful memories from their very first days at Vienna Elementary School. In Mrs. Diffenbach’s first-grade classroom, the graduates reflected on their future plans, sharing their aspirations for college, trade school, military service, and careers in the workforce.
These young men and women have worked hard, completed their programs of study, and are truly college and career ready. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and excited for all that lies ahead.

The YMCA’s Safety Around Water program teaches children that water safety is not a luxury — it is a necessity. During the visit, students learned essential safety skills for rivers, beaches, and pools while building confidence in and around the water. Students also worked toward the YMCA’s “Go for Green” goal by practicing swimming skills, treading water, and learning recovery float techniques.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Dorchester County YMCA, Aquatics Director Ms. Deirdre McAliskey, and the volunteers who hosted our students and shared the importance of water safety. Your time, instruction, and encouragement helped make this experience both educational and memorable for our students.
