**** Full Moon Rêveur Blue on MONDAY! **** Get ready for an exciting celebration on Monday, January 13, 2025—Full Wolf Moon Day at Vienna Elementary School! On this special day, let's show our spirit and unity by wearing blue. The Wolf Moon is the first full moon of the year. It's named for the belief that wolves howled more frequently in January due to the snow and frost. January's full Wolf Moon reaches peak illumination on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 5:27 P.M.

Good evening, Vienna Families! This is just a quick and friendly reminder that our students have a goal of reaching 220 steps by Monday morning, January 6, 2025. This weekend is a great opportunity to encourage our students to dive into some reading! Just imagine how proud they will feel when they surpass their reading step goal! Let’s spark their excitement for books, help them read as much as they can, and most importantly, let’s make sure they enjoy every moment! Don’t forget to sign their logs so they can earn credit for all their reading efforts. And if you haven’t already, be sure to check out the reading study—it’s amazing to see the growth in vocabulary our students are achieving through their daily reading! Thank you for your support, and happy reading!

Dear Families, It looks like 2025 is starting with some possible Inclement Weather days. At this time, the forecast is showing a winter storm on Monday, January 6, 2025. DCPS is scheduled to open on time; however, we will monitor the situation closely. Key Points: School Schedule: DCPS is scheduled to open for a normal school day on Monday. Weather Monitoring: If the storm moves in early, we may need to close early or close completely that day. Updates will be provided through the DCPS Thrillshare app, DCPS Facebook page, and DCPS website. Snow Days: DCPS has 3 inclement weather days built into our 2024-2025 school calendar. Maryland law requires us to use all built-in inclement weather days before considering virtual instruction. Virtual Instruction: If the storm results in closures beyond 3 days, we will switch to virtual instruction. Grades 1-12 will log into their devices to connect with teachers online. PK and K students will receive paper copies and can contact teachers for help. Possible Closure Plan: Monday: Possible inclement weather day, no school. Tuesday: Possible inclement weather day, no school. Wednesday: Possible inclement weather day, no school. Thursday: If we are still closed, virtual instruction begins. Device Preparation: Students will bring home their devices on Friday, January 3. If school is open on Monday, they should bring the device back. If closed, keep the device safe, charged, and ready for use if necessary. We aim to be proactive and prepared for inclement weather. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Mrs. Carroll and Mrs. Diffenbach's 1st grade classes at Vienna Elementary School hosted an exciting Polar Express Day! Embracing the day's spirit, Mrs. Carroll dressed as the conductor. Upon arrival, Mrs. Carroll and Mrs. Diffenbach punched the children's tickets, signaling the start of a wonderful experience. The day was enriched with activities such as watching the Polar Express movie, savoring hot chocolate topped with marshmallows, and engaging in fun math exercises with marshmallows for addition and subtraction. Adding to the magic, students received frozen bells delivered from the North Pole! Students also had the opportunity to create reindeer food to sprinkle in their yards at home and learn to assemble gift bags with tissue paper, fostering their creativity in preparing presents for their families. Additionally, they mixed powder and water to create “snow,” which provided a hands-on, sensory experience. Overall, it was a day filled with fun, learning, and holiday spirit!
