Our 5th graders were able to visit Tuckahoe State Park this week where they learned all about Maryland's native wildlife. Check out some of their photos.

Students in our Prek4 classes have been learning all about apples during our thematic unit this week! They have learned about the different parts of an apple and the apple life cycle! Today we followed directions to make applesauce and boy was it yummy!

Students in Ms. Lindsay's Kindergarten classroom asked and answered questions about a text and used a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose
opinion pieces about the text.

Grandparent's day is always a blast here at Sandy Hill. Thank you all so much for coming out to enjoy this moment with your grandkids. Lot's of smiling faces all throughout the building today. See you again soon!

Look at our buzzing math Bees! We are looking forward to continuing this trend of growth throughout the year. Go Bees!

Would you like to become a part of our Parent Advisory Council here at SHES? Then come on out and join us for our September meeting. We welcome all new and returning faces. Hope to see you there.

Today was Pride-in-the-Hive Day and what a joyous occasion it was. Students were able to join their other Hive members to celebrate the start of a new year. Lots of dancing and singing while learning how to S.W.A.R.M and learning what it will take to take to earn all of those Bee Bucks. Which Hive will come out on top and win the big surprise trip at the end of the year?

Two hour delay due to fog. No breakfast served. Students should still wear their Hive colors.

Just a reminder Friday, September 13th is our very first Pride-in-the-Hive Day if the year! Students who wear their Hive colors and/or Hive t-shirts do not need to wear their uniforms for the day. We will also have a pep rally tomorrow afternoon to kick of PBIS and Hives for the year!

Huge shoutout to our amazing Community Liaison, Mrs. Woolford. We are so lucky to have her and can't wait to see all of the amazing things that she's going to do this year.

As we enter into week 2 of school, let's reflect on the amazing first week for our little Bees. Students and teachers jumped straight into practicing our S.W.A.R.M norms all while forming those relationships with one another. So excited to see what week 2 will bring. Check out our Hive below.

What an amazing turnout today at our open house as staff welcomed over one hundred families. The event was very successful. Students enjoyed great music, snowballs, pizza, and many fun games. We had quite a few stakeholders show up today to support our staff and families and we would like to say thank you all for coming. More importantly, our little Bees and their families got to meet their new teachers and check out their classrooms. We are looking forward to the start of a new school year!

If you registered for the DCPS Hair Drive, please see the flyer below regarding transportation.

Class rosters for all grade levels are now posted on the cafeteria doors. Thank you again for your patience!

Due to a technical issue with PowerSchool, there will be a delay in posting our class rosters. Class rosters will be posted on our cafeteria doors on Tuesday, August 27th. We apologize for the inconvenience.

DCPS has kicked off another wonderful school year welcoming all staff back into the buildings. Today was a very special day for Sandy Hill because we got to board one of our busses to take a tour around the community. Staff were able to greet many students and give out many hugs along with some other goodies. Just look at those smiling faces! The students wanted to stay on the bus and some even thought it was time to come to school. We will see you soon Bees!

Don't forget! The Bee Bus will be buzzing through the neighborhood on Friday, August 23rd between 3:30 and 5:00. Don't miss out!
