Dear NDMS Families,
At North Dorchester Middle School, we are proud to offer students varied
opportunities for extracurricular participation throughout the school year. We feel
that these programs help to meet our school mission of providing students with
experiences that will prepare them for life as well as our vision of focusing on the
well-being of the whole child. As we enter 2025, we feel the need to clarify the
eligibility requirements for students to participate in extra-curricular activities.
These guidelines can also be found in the 2024-2025 Student Code of Conduct on
the DCPS website. Beginning January 7, 2025, the following guidelines will be
utilized for student participation in any extracurricular activities:
1. A student must be in school all day in order to participate in an
extracurricular activity on the same day. Exceptions include school
sponsored trips or activities and approved appointments by school
administration or their designee.
2. Students are ineligible to participate in extra-curricular activities while on
disciplinary suspension. A student is not eligible until the day after the
suspension has concluded. A student with two (2) out of school suspensions,
of three (3) or more days of each incident, is ineligible to participate for the
remainder of the school year.
3. A student who accrues 10 tardies in one marking period will be considered
on an “activity ban” until the beginning of the next marking period.
4. If a student receives an “E” on a report card, they are ineligible to participate
in extracurricular activities until the next interim report is sent home. If that
student does not have an “E” on their interim, they are eligible to participate.
Only an “E’ on a report card can make a student ineligible for participation,
an “E” on an interim report will not result in ineligibility for a student.

Show up and Shine Bright in the New Year!!!! NDMS is challenging our students to show up at least 93% of January to earn some Cool SWAG. Attendance challenge begins January 2nd and concludes January 31st. Students will earn points for being on time and present. By showing up, your future will be so bright, you will need NDMS Shades!!!

On Saturday, the NDMS Marching Band and Dance Team performed in their last holiday Parade of the year. This was a non-competitive parade; however, we feel our students are FIRST PLACE WINNERS EVERYDAY! As the winter parade season comes to an end, NDMS Administration would like to thank the parents, the students, Mr. Bragg, Ms. Griffin, Mr. Lee, Ms. Chester and Ms. Jones for all their hard work and dedication to these organizations.

Come out tomorrow, December 13th to support the Mighty NDMS Owls Basketball Team. Tip off is at 5 pm. We will host the Perkins Family YMCA. Tickets at the door for adults are $5 and students are $3.
It is the giving season and we are so excited that thanks to Hertrich , NDMS was awarded $1000 to put toward an outdoor classroom. We want to say a special congratulations to Mrs. South and her students for kick starting the process. Also, special thanks to anyone and everyone that continuously voted to help us win.
Updated Peek of the Week
Youngsters love to give as well as receive, but with limited money and transportation many find it hard to ensure they have a surprise to give their loved ones during the holiday season. It’s Holiday Shoppes, like this one at North Dorchester Middle School, to the rescue! Students can “spend” points earned since the start of school for good effort, behavior, and attendance to purchase gifts for family and friends. Shopping was in full swing this week, thanks to donated stock, volunteer elves to wrap gifts and provide other help, and Chief Elf Ms. South overseeing events in the Media Center. It’s all about the joy of giving! #DCPS23NoMore
Last week, in Mrs. Irby's 6th grade social studies class, students learned how to be scribes in Ancient Mesopotamia, writing in cuneiform. This ancient and unique form of writing can be seen pressed in clay tablet. For the lesson, students pressed their monogram. Thanks Ms. Irby for planning engaging lessons for our students.
Let's try this again. We were mentally trying to block out the fact that we have a Friday the 13th this week. This week at the Nest, the following activities will occur: Monday - Staff Meeting, No Afterschool Activities Tuesday - Media Club with Ms. South, 3-4:30. Our Winter Concert will be held in the gym. Wednesday - Lego Club with Mr. Weis, 3- 4, Cheer with Mr. Lee and Ms. Griffin, 3-4:30, Media Club with Ms. South, 3-4:30, Basketball game Home vs. Perkins YMCA, tickets at the door tip off at 5 pm Thursday - Cheer with Mr. Lee and Ms. Griffin, 3-4:30, All Shore Band Practice with Mr. Bragg, 3-4, Friday - D&D Club with Mrs. South, 3-4 Saturday - NJHS will attend Wreaths Across America at the East New Market Veteran's Cemetery, meet Mrs. Carpenter at the entrance at 9:30 am. All on Saturday NDMS will participate in the Federalsburg Parade.

NDMS Band, Band Front and the Owlette Dance Team braved the cold on Saturday December 7th at the Diamond Themed Cambridge Christmas Parade . Congrats to the Band for scoring First Place for Middle School Band. Each student performed their best and we are so proud. Special thanks to Dave Ryan for providing pictures and to the coaches that shared their passion and time.

Model/Dance will practice Monday and Wednesday until 4:30. On Thursday, they will host their inaugural Fashion Show. Models/Dancers need to be on property by 4:15. Doors open at 4:30. Tickets need to be purchased in advance.
NDMS Modeling and Dance Club presents The Inaugural Craft Couture Fashion Show. Come out on Thursday to be WOWWED by this event.. straight off the runways of NYC. Doors open at 4:30. Tickets are $5 in advance.
