Wednesday October 16, DCPS sponsored UNITY DAY. Schools were asked to wear Orange to encourage kindness, acceptance and inclusion for our members of our school and local community. Wearing orange symbolizes that you take a stand against Bullying, which can impact our lives. Students and Staff signed a 24 foot banner with their pledge to Stand Up Against Bullying.
Don't forget to wear ORANGE tomorrow to support the COUNTY'S UNITY DAY!!!

Dance Tickets will go on sale during lunches on Monday. Cost is $5. Refer to the criteria for eligibility.
Tuesday- Tutoring, basketball and marching Band will take place afterschool. We will also host afterschool detention.
Wednesday- Wear orange to support Unity Day in the County. We will also hold tutoring, Modeling Club and basketball afterschool
Thursday Only Marching Band and Cheer will be afterschool
No school for staff or students.

Today we kicked off our FriYAY with a celebration for DONUT Miss School attendance challenge. Homerooms competed against each other to earn the highest percentage of attendance. Points were deducted for Unexcused Tardies and Unexcused Absences. 6th Grade, we had a tie with an overall 98.6% with Mr. Mueller's and Mrs. Moss' class. 7th Grade winners go to Ms. J's class with an overall 97.9%. Lastly, 8th grade winners were Mrs. Alston's homeroom with 99.3% attendance. Families, we will have more attendance challenges this year. Please make sure that you are sending in notes to our attendance office when you student misses school.
AS part of the FARM to SCHOOL week, the NDMS Cafeteria Crew sponsored a Pumpkin Game. Students on all three lunches were tasked to Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin. 8th Grader Caden Rush guessed the exact weight of 10.8 lbs. He is now the proud owner of a new Pumpkin. Happy Fall, Ya'll
Dungeons and Dragons, a popular role playing table top game in the 1980's and 90's, has infiltrated the media center at NDMS. In Dungeons and Dragons, or as the cool kids call it, D & D, players use communication skills, problem solving, critical thinking, imagination, teamwork, goal setting, risk taking and flexibility to explore new lands, castles and defeat monsters, or collect treasure. Two Hours, No Cell or Computer, Pure Imagination and Kids Being Kids! The D & D club, sponsored by Mrs. South, meets in the Media Center, afterschool on Fridays. If your child is interested in joining, please contact Mrs. South.

Unfortunately NDMS will need to cancel all afterschool activities for today, except Band. All activities will resume tomorrow.
While most middle school girls can't wait for weekends to arrive, this group of 24 girls in grades 6-8 in Dorchester County couldn't wait for the girl's only U.S. Naval Academy STEM Day. On Saturday, October 5th, girls from MLMS, SDS and NDMS made the trek across the Bridge to experience hands on sessions in : Forensics, Octostudio, Etching, Tensegrity, Rockets, Hydraulics, Sphero Chariots, Geodesic Domes, Skimmers and Anatomy & Bioengineering. DCPS Career Coaches Shay Lewis Sisco, Audrey Roberts want to thank chaperones Linda Barnes (Assistant Principal NDMS) and Jessica Suggs (PLTW teacher and Media Specialist) for traveling to Annapolis and participating in workshops with us. The girls were extremely excited on the way home and many stated "I want to attend the Naval Academy", "That was so cool", "I am glad I came" and "Best Day Ever". We will be hosting another trip in the Spring.. be on the look out.
Starting next week, on all three lunches, tickets will be on sale for the upcoming Dance being held on October 25th. The Dance will begin immediately afterschool and conclude at 5 pm. No students will be permitted to change for the dance. Tickets are $5.00. To be eligible, students must have No Major Referrals, No Unexcused absences and No Unexcused tardies between September 27 - October 25.
Parent Conferences occurred today. Tuesday's and Wednesday's will be our busiest days at the nest. Starting tomorrow, NDMS will host tutoring on Tuesday's and Wednesday's. Transportation is provided. Also on these days, Mr. Dixon and Mr. Jones will hold basketball practice for those that have signed up. Band Front practice will occur on Tuesday and Thursday. Saturday House Altruismo will be participating in the Coming Out of the Dark Walk.
September's Student of the Month quality was ADAPTABILITY. Adaptability is described as being able to adjust to new conditions. Good Evening Families! NDMS will begin tutoring on October 9th and will occur on Tuesday's and Wednesday's. A permission form was required in order to participate. Transportation home is available. DCPS has an abundance of math resources to help your student practice math at home. Students can access practice problems to prepare for upcoming tests/quizzes. Additional practice can help improve your student's skills. Students can log in on any computer using their CLEVER Account and receive personalized instruction with iREADY or play math games on ILC. Approximately 115 8th grade students boarded buses and headed to Univeristy of Maryland- Eastern Shore to take part in a College Tour and Career Fair. Students from all over the Eastern Shore attended. Students heard from current students about the history of the campus, programs offered and valuable academic advice. This was an amazing opportunity for students to visit a beautiful school, right in their back yard!
Good afternoon! Interim reports for all students have been sent by email. You will need your child's lunch number to access. Monday is no school for students and a parent conference day. Tuesday we begin tutoring with transportation. Call the school if you have questions.
Dance Team Try Outs will occur Tomorrow October 1 and Wednesday October 2 from 3-4:15. Please dress in all black for tryouts.
It is another busy week at the NEST! Tuesday, afterschool we will host Band and Cheer Practice. Also the National Junior Honor Society will hold it's monthly meeting. Check your email for Quarter 1 Interims. Thursday Band and Cheer will practice, again. Also, our 8th graders will leave in the morning to head to UMES for a College and Career Fair. Picture Day for all students and staff will occur on Friday. Lastly, on Saturday Band and Band Front will perform at the Hurlock Fall Parade and a group of students will head to the US Naval Academy for a field trip on STEM Careers for Females. We anticipate to kick off tutoring the following week. Please make sure to turn in your child's permission form and remember to send in notes for absences.
Tonight NDMS' Guidance Department threw a So Long To Summer Dance. Students had to have no major referrals to be able to attend. 405 students were eligible and almost 240 students attended. Special thanks to the Guidance Department for their planning, DJ Mark Pages for spinning the tunes and all the staff that helped pull off this great event. Our students had a great time showing off their dance moves. We saw Stanky Legs, Dancing Queens, the Dougie, Cha-Cha Slide, Cotton Eye Joe and the infamous Soulja Boy dance. A great time was had by all. Oh, did we mentioned, that all this fun was had WITHOUT CELLPHONES? Stay tuned for our Spooky Dance in October. We will be publishing criteria October 1st.
