Congratulations to our incredible Grade 8 writer, Emma Hayward!
In Mrs. Cohoon’s ELA class, Emma has truly shined by winning FIRST PLACE in the DCPS districtwide spring writing contest!
Her standout piece, an argumentative essay titled, “Unplug and Connect,” features a masterful closing paragraph that brilliantly weaves together Pre-AP English writing techniques — including ethos, pathos, logos, a rhetorical précis, and a powerful call to action. Emma’s skillful use of these elements not only impressed the judges but also showcased her exceptional talent and dedication.
We couldn’t be prouder of Emma’s achievement and the inspiring voice she brings to our school community! Keep up the amazing work!

We are proud of the hard work, growth, leadership, and accomplishments of our students this year. Please join us as we recognize and celebrate our Owls during our upcoming end-of-year events!
