Dorchester County Public Schools celebrated a successful THRIVE 21613 Community Launch on August 11th at Mace’s Lane Middle School, bringing families, students, community leaders, and more than 30 community resource partners together for an evening centered on connection, opportunity, and joy. Families enjoyed a meal and activities while connecting with local organizations and learning about the resources, services, and opportunities available throughout the 21613 community.
The evening featured voices from across the community, including DCPS Superintendent Dr. Jymil Thompson, who shared the vision and anticipated impact of THRIVE 21613. Students already participating in various THRIVE 21613 pathways also shared their personal impact stories, demonstrating how these opportunities are helping them discover their strengths, build meaningful connections, and envision their futures.
The event also featured remarks from Mr. Everett Young, a THRIVE school principal who is beginning his journey as the new principal of Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. His leadership marks an exciting new chapter for both the school and the broader THRIVE 21613 community.
Cambridge Mayor Lajan Cephas Bey spoke about the importance of THRIVE 21613 and the need for cohesive, aligned collaboration across the community, along with continued investment in Cambridge’s young people and families.
The August 11th launch marked an important step in strengthening connections among families, schools, community organizations, and the resources available to support them. DCPS looks forward to building on the momentum of the Community Launch and continuing to develop the four THRIVE 21613 pathways designed to help students and families connect, thrive, and succeed.
