Dorchester County Public Schools (DCPS) is proud to share the results of the 2025 Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA), administered to all kindergarten students across Maryland during the first weeks of the school year. The KRA evaluates early literacy, math skills, and social-emotional development to ensure students are prepared for a successful start to their educational journey.

The KRA consists of three key components:

Star Early Literacy & Star Alfabetización temprana (early literacy skills)

Star Math & Star Matemáticas (early math skills)

SAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener)

Here are some highlights from Dorchester County’s performance:

Tied for 7th out of 24 participating districts in Star Math, with a score of 61.3 (state average - 55.3)

2nd out of 22 participating districts in Star Literacy (Spanish), with a score of 75 (state average - 50.3)

DCPS remains committed to providing high-quality early education experiences that support every child holistically, including literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development. The district will use these assessment results to guide instruction and resources to meet the needs of all students.
