Representatives from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) visited Dorchester County Public Schools on Tuesday, September 23rd, to engage in meaningful discussions about the district’s ongoing progress and future goals.

The delegation included Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tenette Smith and the Assistant State Superintendent of the Division of Instructional Programs, Dr. Elise Brown. They met with DCPS leadership, including Dr. Jodi Colman and Dr. Donald Boyd, for a tour of Choptank Elementary School, Mace’s Lane Middle School, and North Dorchester Middle School.

During the visit, conversations focused on the “how” behind the district’s impressive strides toward becoming the 15th ranked public school system in Maryland. Discussions highlighted the implementation of DCPS’s strategic plan and explored ways MSDE could serve as a vital partner in advancing student achievement and supporting district-wide initiatives. They also came alongside our learners to work through content in art, reading and language arts, and math.

“We are proud of the progress our schools have made and are eager to collaborate with MSDE to continue this momentum,” said Dr. Colman. “This visit was an important opportunity to share our vision and identify how state resources and expertise can help us reach new heights.”

Dorchester County Public Schools remains committed to providing high-quality education and fostering partnerships that enhance learning opportunities for all students.
