Dorchester County Public Schools was honored to welcome Maryland State Department of Education board members Dr. James C. Bell, Jr. and Ms. Chuen-Chin Bianca Chang for a special visit to our schools, kicking off an inspiring second week of learning and growth.

The visit began at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, where Dr. Bell and Ms. Chang engaged directly with students participating in MCAP prep courses and Freshmen Seminar. Their presence energized our Vikings as they prepare for continued academic success. Dr. Bell, alongside Superintendent Dr. Thompson and CSD junior Amora Perkins, led a whole-group discussion with students about the remarkable progress made during the previous school year. They encouraged students to stand firm in believing in themselves and to embrace their capability to achieve even greater things in the coming school year.

The tour continued at Maple Elementary School, where both board members worked closely with students across multiple grade levels to develop essential reading and active listening skills—key building blocks for lifelong learning and achievement.

“We are grateful to Dr. Bell and Ms. Chang for spending the morning with us and demonstrating their commitment to our students and educators,” said Superintendent Dr. Thompson. “Together, we are empowering the next generation to reach new heights."
