All applications are reviewed to determine whether the applicant meets the credential requirements for the designated subject or grade level and that all proper documents have been received. Applications are then reviewed by principals and staff to determine the most suitable candidates for current and anticipated vacancies.
Step 3: Interviews
When a vacancy occurs, interviews are scheduled for applicants whose qualifications make them the most suitable for the position. Candidates are interviewed by a minimum of two administrators and/or supervisors. After candidates are interviewed the committee makes recommendations to the Human Resources Administrator. Candidates may be asked to interview for several positions at different times as a result of this process. Individuals not recommended for a specific vacancy will continue to be considered for other positions.
Step 4: Appointment
Appointment to a position is made after a candidate has verbally accepted a contract offer from the Director of Human Resources and has signed an acceptance letter. When the offer of employment is made, a tentative salary placement is determined based on available information from the application. Final salary placement is based upon verification of prior years of experience and receipt of official transcripts. Prior experience is defined as a full year of service under contract at the time that the individual is fully credentialed. All new teachers will be placed on the proper step of the salary schedule according to certification, experience and education, but not to exceed Step 10 on any scale. Transcripts must verify the awarding of credit by an accredited university with all units being converted to semester units. Employment is conditional upon satisfactory reports from background check.
Step 5: Orientation
New professional hires are provided a packet of information regarding employment verification, tax forms, direct deposit sheet, medical enrollment health plan, worker's compensation, Maryland State Retirement Agency, certificated contract, and other items related to employment.
A New Teacher Orientation is provided in August prior to the first work day. Mentor teachers are available as a resource prior to the start date and throughout the first year of employment.
If you have any questions regarding employment with Dorchester County Public Schools, please contact Mr. C. Dwayne Abt at email@example.com or by phone at 410-228-4747, ext. 1063.
Applicants are being sought for non-contracted home & hospital teaching positions. Assignments involve working individually with students who are temporarily unable to attend school due to a physical or an emotional condition. Instructional services are typically provided at the student's residence or at a public library. Reimbursement is provided on an hourly basis plus mileage. No additional benefits are provided. Minimal requirements include verification of a bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education, favorable references, and a successful criminal background investigation.
